Including Animal Friends In Your Wedding
Many humans value their animals not merely as pets but as best friends. Some couples chose to honor this bond by including their 4-legged friends in the wedding ceremony. Following are a few tips for successfully integrating your pet into your ceremony with the least amount of stress to both you and your pet.
Is it a Pets-Allowed Venue?
Check to make sure that the location you have selected for the ceremony allows pets. If your ceremony location does not allow pets decide which is more important, the location or the inclusion of your pet. Once over the speed bump of pet acceptance, go forward with planning the part your pet will have in your ceremony.
Practice; Practice; Practice
Once you have decided what your pet will be doing in the ceremony, PRACTICE so that your pet is familiar with the task you expect them to perform. A great part for a dog would be that of ring bearer or flower girl. The rings (best advice is to use fake rings and give the real ones to the best man) could be attached to an elegant collar or harness for him to carry down the aisle. A flower basket could be carried in a similar way or perhaps your dog could be taught to carry it in her mouth. Those who love their horses have been known to ride them up the aisle in an outdoor setting. No matter what the task, to lessen the stress for your pet at ceremony time, be sure to practice frequently so that they are less apt to refuse or be fearful. Take them to the ceremony site and let them look it over. The more they are exposed to the whole process, the less stress they will encounter at the ceremony.
It’s Black Tie for your Pet too
If your pet does not mind being dressed up, there are wonderful wedding outfits available to dress your pet as one of the wedding party. There are tuxedos, top hats, doggie ball gowns, necklace collars and accessories for your pet. If your dog hates having clothes put on, go with something simpler like a collar of flowers or a bow tie. If you go with dress attire for your pet, be sure to do a few dress-ups so they will be comfortable with their outfit come wedding day.
Get a Dog-Handler
On your wedding day be sure to have a dog handler. This person should be someone the dog is familiar with. Bring water, food, treats and favorite toys along with a crate for your pet. The pet should be walked just before the ceremony and kept on a leash through out the ceremony. Have a plan for your pet’s care just in case your pet is intimidated by the crowd or surroundings. Your pet is in your wedding because you love them, so assure they are well cared for throughout the whole day.
Be sure to get lot of pictures. Photos will surely be a lifetime reminder of your wedding day made all the more wonderful with the inclusion of your 4-legged friend.
